Which is the most important of the 5 senses, and can they be objectively ranked in order of importance or priority? I don't think so, I think it is a personal matter, a chef would always choose taste, a perfumer smell, a musician hearing... However, there are studies that give the first and second places to sight and touch or vice versa, to touch and sight. Given their equal importance, this project deals with these two senses.

 

With these photos I introduce you to my family through their hands. Why their hands? Because, just as the eyes are the mirror of the soul, the hands are its map. After the face, hands are the physical feature that most distinguishes a person. In the hands you can see the personality, the age or the health. Hands transmit and receive. With them we create art, we feel the world, we caress, we can make a multitude of different gestures, and each one of them generates an emotion or gives a certain type of information. And most importantly, the hands are home to one of the most important senses: touch.

 

Now imagine that I make this same presentation to a blind person, "Hello, through these photos I introduce you to my family". The blind person has two options, either to be accompanied by someone who can explain what is in front of him or to be able to perceive the image by touch. Thinking about the necessary independence of blind people, I have chosen the second option. It is true that in this way I cannot transmit the depth of the image, the contrast, the texture of the skin and many other details. But I can convey the gesture, the shape of the fingers, the shape of the palm, the shape of the nails or the number of wrinkles.

 

 

In order to level the playing field as far as possible between sighted and blind people, or to eliminate in some way the differences in perception, all the photos are in black and white, and each one is accompanied by its written title in braille.
